Speech therapist: the first profession accredited under the Accredited Registers Scheme for Healthcare Professions
Professor Sophia Chan, The Secretary for Food and Health of the Hong Kong SAR Government, announced that the Hong Kong Institute of Speech Therapists (HKIST) has been granted a full accreditation status under the Pilot Accredited Registers Scheme for Healthcare Professions (AR Scheme). Upholding the principle of “One Profession, One Professional Body, One Register”, HKIST is the only accredited professional body responsible for administering the Register of Speech Therapists. The full accreditation status reflects that HKIST has met the accreditation standards covering governance, operational effectiveness, risk management and quality improvement, standards for registrants, educational and training requirements, as well as management of the register. HKIST is committed to protect the public and promote public confidence in the speech therapy profession.
As the first accredited healthcare professional body under the AR Scheme, HKIST is authorised by the Department of Health to use the Accreditation Mark on our website and issue Certificates of Registration to our registrants for easy identification by the public. Registrant can use the title "Member of Register of Speech Therapists accredited by Department of Health" to signify that they have met the registration standards as well as the education and training requirements of HKIST, and comply with the Code of Ethics and disciplinary mechanism in respect of the speech therapy profession.
